New changes and improvements are on the way to Jacob’s Park as the U.S. Department of Interior is sending nearly $3 millon to the City of Tucson for this park. It’s a part of a $47 million project from the federal government that aims to improve local parks across the country. One of those parks is Jacob’s Park on Tucson’s northside.
The park is vast with some softball fields, soccer fields, a pool, two playgrounds and open space. But the new changes will add a few more fields, pool improvments and even put a cricket pitch in the park. Lara Hamwey, the director of parks and recreation for the City of Tucson, said this adds to the pool of money for improvements to the park, which makes this a $8.4 million dollar project.
These are low income families that will be directly impacted by positive investments, she said. If we can cast a wider net for additional funding so we can offer more while the park is shut down for improvements.
The park improvements will be finished in 2026.
